This report explores the correlation between autism and gender dysphoria in young people, in the English context concerning transidentity in young people. Children with autism may be more vulnerable to the influence of gender ideologies, which should prompt healthcare professionals to exercise caution. The report also highlights the importance of holistic treatment for autistic children, who may have difficulty navigating social gender norms.
Because of their autistic functioning, autistic children may identify themselves as trans in the belief that this will help them to integrate, and the encouragement of trans communities in this journey may reinforce this belief.
